The death of four young women due to botched sterilization procedures at a state-run community health center on the outskirts of Hyderabad has fuelled the conversation about the neglect in the state-run healthcare system in India. The Telangana government has granted cash of Rs 5 lakh and a 2BHK apartment for the families of each deceased. The director of Public Health Services has also ordered an inspection to investigate the incident.

However, a major issue that has been flagged is that the prescribed number of DPPL surgeries is up to 30/day, while the four surgeons conduct as many as 48 surgeries each.
